Extruded IP Sealings

Extrusion involves forcing silicone rubber through a shaped die to create a continuous profile. This process is ideal for producing long lengths of gaskets with a constant cross-section. A key advantage of extruded gaskets is the ability to splice the ends together, creating o-rings. This allows for the production of o-rings with a hollow core.

Product characteristics

  • Cost-effective for high-volume production of simple geometries.
  • Provides consistent material properties and dimensional accuracy.
  • Available in a wide variety of standard profiles and materials.
  • Can be designed to function as spacers, holders, or dampeners in addition to sealing.
  • Splicing enables o-rings with a hollow core, reducing and optimizing compression force requirements.

Nolato expertise

Nolato has extensive experience in silicone extrusion, including splicing techniques to create specialized o-ring solutions. Our material expertise ensures that the extruded gaskets offer excellent sealing performance and long-term reliability. Compashield extruded IP sealings are a cost-effective solution for many applications.

Compashield®

Molded IP Sealings

Molding involves shaping silicone rubber in a mold cavity under heat and pressure. This process is suitable for producing gaskets with complex geometries and intricate features.

Product characteristics

  • Enables the creation of three-dimensional shapes and varying cross-sections.
  • Provides excellent dimensional control and repeatability.
  • Allows for the integration of multiple materials or components.
  • Can be designed to function as spacers, holders, or dampeners in addition to sealing.

Nolato Expertise

Nolato's molding capabilities encompass compression molding, injection molding, and liquid silicone rubber (LSR) molding. Notably, Compashield molded IP sealings can also be manufactured using overmolding, where silicone is molded over a plastic or metal part to provide both sealing and mechanical support. These advanced molding techniques allow us to produce high-precision, custom-molded gaskets that meet the most demanding requirements. Compashield molded IP sealings are often used in applications requiring complex shapes, tight tolerances, or integrated functionality.

Trishield®

Dispensed IP Sealing

Dispensing involves applying a liquid silicone material directly onto a part using automated dispensing equipment. The material then cures in place to form a gasket.

Product characteristics

  • Highly flexible design, enabling the creation of gaskets on complex or three-dimensional surfaces.
  • Minimizes material waste and removes the need for tooling.
  • Suitable for both prototyping and high-volume production.

Nolato Expertise

Nolato's Trishield dispensing technology is a specialized form-in-place (FIP) gasket solution. This technology is particularly well-suited for applications with challenging geometries or tight spaces.

Benefits of silicone

Silicone gaskets offer a number of key benefits that make them ideal for IP sealing applications:

Temperature Resistance

Silicone gaskets offer exceptional temperature resistance, maintaining their durability, flexibility, and effective sealing across a broad temperature range from -50°C to +250°C (-58°F to +482°F). This makes them well-suited for demanding environments.

Flexibility and Compression Set

Silicone's inherent flexibility allows gaskets to conform to irregular surfaces, ensuring a tight and effective seal. They also exhibit low compression set, meaning they retain their shape and sealing properties even after prolonged compression.

Chemical Resistance

Silicone gaskets offer high chemical resilience, resisting degradation from oils, fuels, acids, bases, and many solvents.

Durability and Longevity

Silicone's durability and longevity reduce the need for frequent replacements and minimize downtime. They resist UV radiation, ozone, and environmental weathering.

By employing these diverse production methods and leveraging our material science expertise, Nolato delivers IP sealing solutions that offer:

  • Reliable protection against environmental contaminants
  • Long-term performance and durability
  • Customization to meet specific application needs
  • Efficient and cost-effective production
